About Us

Mission

History

WOMEN AWARE was created in 1995 by a small group of women who were survivors of domestic violence. These women recognized that there was a gap in the long term services provided to victims of domestic violence. As a result they came together and created WOMEN AWARE to provide long-term support to victims and increase the community’s awareness of domestic violence.

Over the past 12 years WOMEN AWARE has achieved it’s mission statement through the development of several programs run independently and in conjunction with other organizations.

The creation of WOMEN AWARE reflects the growing commitment of the Montreal community to address domestic abuse and more importantly, not to tolerate it.

Whether we engage in direct service, education, prevention, or advocacy, our ultimate goal is always to help the community break the silence that surrounds domestic violence and to end the cycle that passes it from one generation to the next.

Our Vision

  1. BulletWOMEN AWARE refutes the unspoken assumption that the lives of survivors of domestic violence are over!

As women become AWARE, a clear vision of a better life takes shape for them and their children.  Breaking the silence throughout society about domestic abuse and the need for women to be equal to men is the key.
