If you are using Internet Explorer:

1. Open the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.

2. Under Browsing History, click the Delete button.

3. If you want to delete your Internet history every time you close your window, select Delete browsing history on exit.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox:

1. Go to the Tools menu button above the address bar. (If you can’t see it, you probably have the newest version of Firefox. Just click on the orange Firefox button on the top left-hand corner)

2. Click and select Clear Recent History.



3. There’s a choice to select what time range to clear. Choose one and click Clear Now.

4. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+Del on your keyboard to call out the Clear Recent History window.

NOTE: If you want to keep to avoid clearing your history, you can use Firefox’s Private Browsing mode. To access,

1. Click the Tools button

If you are using Google Chrome:

1. Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
2. Select Tools.

Since April 1, 2006, the Quebec Civil Code  1974.1 has allowed a tenant to terminate her/his residential lease if:

• her/his safety or that of a child living with her/him is threatened as a result of domestic violence on the part of a spouse or a former spouse, or as a result of sexual aggression, even on the part of someone who is neither a spouse or a former spouse

• terminating her/his lease would ensure her/his safety or that of a child living with the tenant.

To combat domestic violence, security expert Gavin de Becker  has developed a potentially lifesaving tool called MOSAIC 

This online assessment is free and protects the user’s identity.

Anyone—the victim or concerned loved ones—can log onto the website and answer 46 questions to determine how much of a threat an abuser poses to an individual or family. “MOSAIC expresses its results on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most likely to escalate—including homicide,” Gavin says.

The technology is based on similar programs used to protect congressmen and Supreme Court justices. “It takes the factors of a situation and breaks them down and then sees all these pieces of the puzzle and puts it back together in a way that, in a domestic violence situation, a woman can/may see the picture for the first time.”

• Tammy Shaikh

On November 30, 2003, Tammy Shaikh’s husband, former pro-football player, Tommy Kane  stabbed her to death, leaving her four children without a mother. Tammy’s sister, Ava, now cares for her sister’s four children in addition to her own son. Kane is currently serving an 18 year prison sentence for manslaughter.

Domestic violence know no boundries ,class, race, or gender - we understand that this can occur in heterosexual and same sex relationships.  For this information below we refer to gender in the feminine.

•  If you know someone who is being abused, you can help her by showing you care.

• Let her speak confidentially about her situation and without judgment.

• You may be the only person with whom she feels comfortable.

Show you care in these suggested ways:

• Listen to her.

• Believe her.

• Do not minimize her struggle.

• Do not blame her.

• Assure her that she is not responsible for the abuse and its not her fault.   You can never make someone else hurt you!

• Give her the number to a Toll free Crisis or Support line for domestic violence victims  

• Let her keep important papers and extra clothes at your house or an alternate safe place and encourage her to keep a journal (outside of the home)

• Help when you can with transportation, childcare, groceries.

• Assure your friend that violence in her home does concern you. Help her learn not to deny or minimize the abuse. If she says, “It’s really not that bad,” tell her it is serious.

• Remind and encourage  her that she  ( and her children) deserve to be safe and happy.

• Any  form violence in a relationship (emotional ,verbal, physical)  is never acceptable.  No one deserves to be beaten or beaten down.

• Encourage her to develop a safety plan, to think of ways to escape safely and  quickly.

•  There is no excuse for abuse! 

• Domestic violence is  indeed a crime.

Be patient. It takes time to bring about change. There are many barriers. Your friend has many decisions to make.

Shelters for abused women do more than provide shelter

• Shelters for abused women do more than provide emergency housing and food for women and their children: they offer counseling and support to help women rebuild their lives, programming for children who have witnessed violence to help them heal, legal advice, and assistance finding affordable housing. Many shelters also raise awareness in their communities about domestic violence.
• The cost of operating shelters for abused women in Canada totals more than $135 million each year.¹⁵
• Shelters play a critical role in stopping violence against women, but are only part of the solution. Support for women involves a wide range of services and programs that both prevent abuse (e.g. teaching youths about healthy relationships) and help abused women rebuild their lives after violence.
