Advocacy

Women AWARE/Femmes AVERTIES works on raising awareness of Intimate Partner Violence. Our advocacy efforts are promoted across social media educational content and outreach through presentations and collaborations, as well as media appearances, that contribute to paving the narrative that abuse is a systemic issue and manifests in behaviors.

Our team is dedicated to helping detect early signs of abuse and is specialized in the context of IPV. Abuse can occur from different types of relationships, and we are committed to a network that enables us to connect survivors and loved ones to the resources available in the region.

Women AWARE/Femmes AVERTIES actively seeks to amplify our message through news appearances, interviews, and discussions to emphasize the importance of addressing IPV. We are developing educational workshops, and training programs to equip volunteers, individuals, and the community to identify abuse and create a safer environment. We regularly create accessible educational content on various platforms to empower our community against abuse.

Charitable Choices: Alham Mahmod of Women AWARE

While unfortunately the violence against women, in a romantic relationship context and/or outside of it, has not decreased, some research shows an increase since the pandemic. Awareness and conversations have become much more common and accessible. More survivors are coming forward as they realize they are not the only ones. They have a community that will listen, believe and support them.

“We aim to bring more awareness to conjugal violence, to believe and hear survivors that are not being heard, and to keep fighting against gender-based violence until no more lives are lost to it.”

Outreach

We are actively expanding our network by collaborating with like-minded institutions such as schools, organizations, centers, and businesses. Through presentations, workshops, conferences, and Q&A sessions, we share our mission, objectives, and hopes for the future while educating our audiences. We visit educational institutions to introduce students to Women AWARE/Femmes AVERTIES and its mission as well as recruiting volunteers, increasing inclusivity, and optimizing our services.

We facilitate conferences and Q&A sessions addressing abuse-related topics, such as relationships and perception of love, green and red flags, consent and more, fostering informative discussions and dispelling misconceptions. We're dedicated to extending this outreach to schools, universities, and other community spaces.

Our last event was scheduled for November 25th, 2023, where we hosted a roundtable discussion featuring Dr. Catherine Richardson, in the context of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. The event’s theme focused on response-based practice and resistance, providing an engaging platform for discussing crucial issues related to gender-based violence through an intersectional lens.
